The outward appearance of holiness has always been popular, though the definition given for this “holiness” changes by faction and generation. Actual holiness has never changed and has never been popular, ever.

Some people feel holy by lowering their carbon footprint. Some people feel holy for advocating for animals. Some people feel holy for becoming Vegan. Some people feel holy for abstaining from drink. Some people feel holy for working hard.
There’s nothing wrong with doing any of these things. However, none of these things make a person holy. Only the imputation of holiness by Jesus can do that.
